P0230 Fuel Pump Primary Circuit
Fuel and air
P0230 means there's a fault in the fuel pump's power circuit (relay, fuse or wiring), which can make the engine stall or not start.
The engine computer has found a problem in the circuit that powers the fuel pump relay or fuel pump control, such as an open, short or no response.
The fuel pump may cut out without warning, stalling the engine. Don't rely on the vehicle until it's fixed.
Common causes
- A failed fuel pump relay
- A blown fuel pump fuse
- Damaged wiring or a corroded connector in the pump circuit
- A failed fuel pump control module (on vehicles that have one)
Symptoms
- No start or cranks but won't start
- Stalling or intermittent loss of power
- No fuel pump hum when the key is turned on
What to check first
- Listen for the fuel pump running for a couple of seconds when the key is turned on.
- Check the fuel pump fuse and swap the relay with an identical one in the fuse box.
- Check the wiring to the pump and its connector at the tank for corrosion or burning.
- Check power and ground at the pump as your service information describes.
