P0175 System Too Rich (Bank 2)
Fuel and air
P0175 means bank 2 is running rich (too much fuel), often from a leaking injector, high fuel pressure or a dirty MAF sensor.
The engine computer has pulled as much fuel out of the mixture on bank 2 (the side of a V6 or V8 without cylinder 1) as it's allowed, and the oxygen sensor still reads rich. Extra fuel is getting in, or the computer is under-measuring the air.
Usually drivable for now, but running rich wastes fuel, fouls plugs and can overheat the catalytic converter. Get it checked soon.
Common causes
- A leaking fuel injector on bank 2
- Fuel pressure too high
- A dirty or failing mass airflow (MAF) sensor
- A clogged air filter
- Fuel in the oil feeding vapor through the PCV system
Symptoms
- Poor fuel economy
- Fuel smell or black smoke
- Rough idle, sometimes misfires
What to check first
- If P0172 (bank 1) is also set, look for something affecting both banks: the MAF sensor, air filter or fuel pressure.
- If only bank 2 is rich, suspect a leaking injector on that side.
- Clean the MAF sensor with MAF cleaner and recheck fuel trims.
- Test fuel pressure and whether it holds after shut-off.
