P0441 Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow
EVAP
P0441 means the EVAP purge system isn't flowing fuel vapor to the engine as expected, often a stuck purge valve.
The engine computer opened the purge valve to draw fuel vapor from the charcoal canister into the engine and didn't see the change it expected, or saw flow when the valve should be closed.
Safe to drive. It affects emissions and can fail an inspection.
Common causes
- A stuck or failed purge valve
- A cracked or blocked purge hose
- A clogged charcoal canister
- A faulty EVAP pressure sensor
Symptoms
- Check-engine light
- Sometimes rough idle after refueling or hard starting
Common on: Toyota Camry, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Tacoma, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Elantra
What to check first
- Inspect the purge valve and its hoses.
- Command the purge valve with a scan tool and listen for clicking.
- Check whether the purge valve holds vacuum when closed.
- Check the canister for damage or fuel saturation.
