P0068 MAP/MAF - Throttle Position Correlation

Fuel and air

P0068 means the airflow the engine measures doesn't match the throttle opening, usually a vacuum leak, a dirty MAF sensor or a dirty throttle body.

The engine computer compares the airflow it measures (MAF or MAP sensor) with the airflow it expects from the throttle position. P0068 means they don't agree, often because air is getting in around the throttle or a sensor is off.

Can I keep driving? Yes, but get it fixed soon.

The engine may idle high, hesitate or go into reduced power. Get it checked soon.

Common causes

  1. A vacuum leak after the throttle body
  2. A dirty or failing MAF sensor
  3. A dirty throttle body or a throttle position sensor problem
  4. A cracked intake boot or loose clamp

Symptoms

  • High or unstable idle
  • Hesitation or reduced power
  • Stalling when coming to a stop

What to check first

  1. Check the intake boot and vacuum hoses for leaks; a smoke test finds hidden ones.
  2. Clean the MAF sensor and throttle body, then do the throttle relearn if your vehicle needs one.
  3. Compare MAF, MAP and throttle position readings at idle and part throttle with a scan tool.
  4. Check for service bulletins for your engine.
