P0113 Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High

Fuel and air

P0113 means the intake air temperature sensor reads extremely cold because its circuit is open, often an unplugged sensor or connector.

The intake air temperature (IAT) sensor's signal is at the high-voltage end, which the engine computer reads as extremely cold air. Most often the sensor is unplugged or its circuit is open.

Can I keep driving? Yes, for now.

Usually safe to drive. The engine may run a little rich or rough, especially when warm.

Common causes

  1. An unplugged or corroded IAT connector (often built into the MAF sensor)
  2. An open wire in the IAT circuit
  3. A failed IAT sensor

Symptoms

  • Check-engine light
  • Sometimes rough idle or slightly worse fuel economy

What to check first

  1. Check whether the IAT sensor (or the MAF sensor it's part of) is plugged in, especially after air filter work.
  2. With a scan tool, compare intake air temperature with the outside temperature on a cold engine; around -40°F means an open circuit.
  3. Check the wiring and connector, then replace the sensor if needed.
